In my four years working at Fast Company Magazine and fastcompany.com as a Product Manager I launched a mobile-first news section FastCoNews and its stand-alone CMS, with a team of 15 people including editorial, engineers, and designers.
In my role of Project Manager I wrangled content and people, served as the liaison among cross-functional teams, coordinate deadlines, roadmaps and allocation of resources. Everything while staying on the grind handling the day-to-day as Scrum Master for the engineering team, scheduling, and enforcing brand identity as well as the web content style guide across the Fast Company network.
As a Multimedia Production Manager at the University of Texas at El Paso I led a team of designers, videographers, and developers to create interactive material to enhance the Online Learning experience.
I always had fun and experimented with new technology--QR code scavenger hunts and AR-enhanced promotional material (10 years ago, pre-Pokemon Go era)--in an effort to encourage faculty development and increase student engagement. This role was hands-on and very rewarding.
Being a Graphic Designer by training always comes very handy when negotiating with engineers and the design team. While my expertise nowadays is Project/Product management, from time to time I make space to design things that I wish it exist.
